why efficiency?
An efficient house is a comfortable house. It’s a healthier space to live, and a less expensive place to heat and cool.
Here are some reasons people decide to have a whole-home energy efficiency renovation:
- Solar is not right for your home.
Maybe you looked into solar but found that it wouldn’t work on your home or was too expensive. In terms of payback for your dollars spent, an efficiency retrofit can actually be more cost-effective than solar panels. By making your home more efficient, you can reduce your energy costs at a faster rate than with solar in many cases.
- Your utility bills are high, or spike dramatically during the winter.
This is a sign that the air inside your home, which you have conditioned to be a certain temperature, is escaping, thus forcing you to re-heat or cool the air at a more frequent rate. This is expensive and unnecessary.
- The temperature or moisture level in your home fluctuates greatly or varies between rooms.
This is a common sign that your home is not healthy. Moisture should not be coming into your home, and conditioned air should not be leaking out. If your walls, floor and ceiling/attic are insulated properly these discomforts can be avoided completely.
- You or someone in your family suffer from indoor air allergies or other health problems.
When your house is not insulated properly, air from the outside, or most commonly from your crawl space (that area you avoid under your home), is pulled into your living area, bringing mold, dust particles and other allergens into the air you breathe. When air escapes from your ceiling or roof, it creates a pull, called the stack effect, which forces air to enter your home from any possible leak. This is expensive and unnecessary. A whole-home retrofit is a great way to make your home healthier for you and your family.
